KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (May 21, 2018) -- A Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II crew chief communicates with the pilot before takeoff at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, May 21, 2018. The crew chief is assigned to the 163rd Fighter Squadron, Indiana Air National Guard 122nd Fighter Wing. Attached to the 451st Air Expeditionary Group (AEG), the A-10s are providing close-air support for Coalition and Afghan forces on the front lines in support of the Resolute Support Mission and Operation Freedom's Sentinel. The 451st AEG provides an airpower presence in the Afghanistan area of operations.
