Because there is no evidence on record that alicense was procured by Whipple previous to 1833, yet thatdoes not make it certain that no inn was kept at the Mills prior to that date. In fact circumstances are such as to show-that Daniel S. Whipple had an inn there several yearsprevious to that time. By tradition it is learned that in 1831 a tavern was burnedthere, then owned by Whipple, together with a gristmill, ablind and sash factory, and a wagon makers shop connectedwith the gristmill, all probably in the same -.:^a3^ OiO-TAVERN AT WHlT/AORES ,
