Never plant Watermelons on hard, poor soil. Plant in large, deep, mellow hills, made very rich with well-rotted manure, and you will have great crops of this delicious vegetable, which, to be had at its best, must be picked from one's own garden. Duke Jones—Briefly, this is supposed to be the largest, handsomest, most prolific, and in other respects the finest melon grown.
