Shenzhen, China, 1988, satellite image. Shenzhen is located in southern China's Guangdong province directly north of Hong Kong. In the 1979 the small fishing village was designated a Special Economic Zone and rapidly grew into a major port and city. The image shows urban development along the port (lower middle) and along some parts of the coast spreading inland towards the right.
