The Twisted Trees (Crooked Trees) aspen stand, an unusual group of deformed Trembling Aspen in Saskatchewan, Canada. Populus tremuloides
The cause of the crookedness unknown but is likely the result of a genetic change in one of the earliest trees in the stand. It does not appear to be the result of location, environment or soil because cuttings from these trees propogated elsewhere showed the same type of growth. Nearby aspens are normal. Possible explanations include paranormal factors or genetic mutation.
