BRITISH FOOD STOCKS FOR LIBERATED EUROPE, 1945 - The Falcon Spinning Mill, Bolton, Lancashire. After being closed early in the war under the government scheme for centralizing cotton spinning, the mill was used for storing emergency food stuffs. Owing to the world shortage of cotton goods, the mill was re-opened and the stored food sent to liberated Europe. The large and imposing Falcon mill dwarfs a row of terraced house in this photograph. The mill is in the background, in front of which stand the houses. In the foreground, a man tends his allotment. His greenhouse can be clearly seen
