A Caucasian shashka, 19th century. Robust single-edged blade of wootz Damascus with double fullers on both sides. The base of the blade decorated on the obverse with an engraved inscription, on the reverse with a lion and a calligraphic cartouche. Nielloed and part-gilt silver grip. Leather-covered (replaced) wood scabbard with two (not matching) nielloed silver mounts, added brass chape.
