This 1910 illustration shows Wolmer Pond in Selborne in the county of Southampton in England. The accompanying caption read: "On the face of this expanse of waters, and perfectly secure from fowlers, lie all day long, in the winter season, vast flocks of ducks, teals, and widgeons." Selborne was a place of note and distinction in the time of the Saxons. The illustration is from the book "The Natural History & Antiquities of Selborne in the County of Southampton by Gilbert White (published 1911).
