LEWIS. Born January 9, 1838, at New London, Conn., father. JaredLewis; mother, Alary Crosby Lewis. Enlisted in Co. E. 44th N. I. Aug. 22nd, 1861; transferred to Co. G. Oct., 1862. waspromoted to Sergeant after the battle of Fredericksburg. Waswounded at Chancellorsville. At Gettysburg had a bullet put throughhis leg, and has the same bullet now in his home, it having been cutout by the surgeon. Returned to the regiment in February, 1864 andremained with it until mustered out. Entered the Christian ministry and served in that capacity thirtyyears. Left that profession on account of throat trouble.
