From early boyhood Dr. Palmer hadlooked forward to the possibility of thepractice of medicine being his life work,such being his devout wish; but lack ofmeans all along stood in the way of hisaccomplishing his desire in that , more money would have to beearned, to accomplish which he com-menced, after leaving school the secondtime, to learn the trade of carpenter,which he continued several years, amongother work assisting in erecting all theGreat Western railroad buildings, includ-ing docks, at Windsor, Canada.
