It is asimple but very beautiful composition, and the attitudes ofboth the figures is pleasing and elegant. PLATE X. This design is said to represent Apollo in pursuit ofDaphne; he is in a travelling dress, with the bina hastiliaand the sword under his arm, as is usual in the heroiccharacters. This arrangement of his dress seems to indicate, that he appeared to Daphne simply in the character of amortal. PLATE XL We have been unable to discover the individual charactersof this design, in which the actions both of the horse andfigures engaged in battle are finely imagined and wellcombined.
