The Sunflower Galaxy (Messier 63, M63, NGC 5055) is a spiral galaxy located 25 million light years away in the constellation of Canes Venatici (the Hunting Dogs). It comprises a central disc surrounded by short spiral arm segments. The disc is around 100,000 light years in diameter. Messier 63 exhibits very faint extended features just visible in this image. These are probably the result of gravitational interactions with nearby galaxies.
