In going down we took the lake shoreroad, which has from 5 to 6 miles of verydeep sand, the larger portion of which isnot less than G to 8 inches deep. On ourreturn we had to travel most of the dis-tance on narrow country roads of poorsoil with some mighty steep grades. Whilethe test was very unusual and beyond any-thing the machine would be required toperform in the service, the large 6-cyl-Inder motor did not seem to be taxed toits limit. We had expected to run into some dif-ficulty on account of these poor roads, es-pecially as we were not equipped with anyanti-skid devices outside of the advan-tages claimed for Goodyear fire-trucktires.
