Jos. C. Millmann, secretary and treas-urer Stegeman Motor Car Co., Milwaukee,Wis., makes the following report on Good-year demountable cushion fire-truck tiresas used on test of large Stegeman com-bination chemical and flying squadronwagon for the city of Milwaukee, October31, 1912: The run was made from Milwaukee toHighland Park, 111., and covered a dis-tance of approximately ISO miles. Be-fore we started back from Highland Parkwe had the good luck of riding in a steady October, l»n 398 MUNICIPAL ENGINEERING. INDIVIDUAL block tire fastened to rim. downpour of rain. The rain started about10 oclock in the morning and kept upthe entire day. In going down we took the lake shoreroad, which has from 5 to 6 miles of verydeep sand, the larger portion of which isnot less than G to 8 inches deep. On ourreturn we had to travel most of the dis-tance on narrow country roads of poorsoil with some mighty steep grades. Whilethe test was very unusual and beyond any-thing the machine would be required toperform in the service, the large 6-cyl-Inder motor did not seem to be taxed toits limit. We had expected to run into some dif-ficulty on account of these poor roads, es-pecially as we were not equipped with anyanti-skid devices outside of the advan-tages claimed for Goodyear fire-trucktires. It was certainly a pleasant sensa-tion to notice how these tires behavedunder the conditions named. They provedthemselves to be anti-skid, kept the road, and allowed us to keep up high w
