Lunar Lander spacecraft. Artwork of the Lunar Lander robotic mission under development by the European Space Agency (ESA). The primary objective of this mission is to achieve an autonomous landing, paving the way for future ESA human and robotic exploration missions. The Lunar Lander is metres in height and metres across. Power is provided by solar panels (blue). It would land in the Moon's south polar region, using a Hazard Detection and Avoidance system, and carry out surface operations for several months. It is scheduled for launch in 2018, but as of 2012 funding is not certain.
