Blantyre Cotton Mill on the banks of the River Clyde where the explorer David Livingstone (1813-1873) mother and father were among the 2000 people employed in the Cotton Mills some eight miles south east of Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Livingstone (1813-1873)went on to become a Scottish Congregationalist pioneer medical missionary with the London Missionary Society. He became one of the most famous of the European missionaries and explorers who opened up the interior of Africa during the mid 1800s.
