Dr Joseph Warren, Major General in the armies of theUnited States, and who was slain in the battle of BunkerHill, was a native of this town, as was also Increase Sumner,Esq., late governor of the Commonwealth. Governor Shirleyhad a fine seat here, lately owned and occupied by the lateGovernor Eustis. Here are three Congregational societies, one Baptist, aUniversalist society, and St. James church. The Bank ofNorfolk, the Peoples Bank, and Winthrop Bank, are locatedhere, and several excellent hotels. GEOVE HALL,. Is in Roxbury, near the Dorchester line. It was formerlythe residence of T. K. Jones, Esq., is owned by Edward , and kept by Mr C. A. Flagg, as a summer boardinghouse. It is a delightful resort for private parties, havingevery accommodation for their recreation and amusement. Itis about four miles from the city, and receives extensive pa-tronage. THE KORFOLK HOUSE, Is about two miles from the City Hall, is situated on an em-inence surrounded by fruit trees and shrubbery commanding PICTURE OP BOSTON. 347 a fine view of Boston. The establishment was opened by MrDurand, the present occupant, in 1827. The hotel has sincebeen much enlarged and improved. It contains twelve par-lors, between thirty and forty bed rooms, two dining rooms,and probably the most beautiful Assembly room in the UnitedStates, called Highland Hall. A l
