The Zimmermann Telegram as it was sent from Washington, DC, to Ambassador Heinrich von Eckardt, the German ambassador to Mexico. This explosive message announced the opening of unrestricted submarine warfare and offered Mexico land in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico in return for Mexican participation against the USA in WW1.
