MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Oct. 21, 2015) Lt. Cosimo Manica, a Marina Militare Pilot and Monteiasi, Italy native, currently assigned to the “Ace of Spades” Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 231, takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) in an Italian AV-8B Harrier Oct. 21, 2015. Kearsarge, deployed as part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group, is conducting naval operations in the 6th Fleet area of operations in support of national security interests in Europe.
