A 19th century British sketch of a Dinotherium (meaning "terrible Beast", now extinct but found in European tertiary geological formations. The largest specimen remains found indicate it exceeded 18 feet ( metres) in length. The animal had a proboscis or trunk and two prominent tusks. It may have been related to the modern elephant, walrus or Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas). Georg Wilhelm Steller ( 1709 – 1746) was a German botanist
