Salford, part of Greater Manchester

Levens Street is on the edges of Charlestown Riverside which is an area of 18 hectares fronting the River Irwell where an adopted master plan proposes the demolition of existing homes, construction of 626 new dwellings, refurbishment of community facilities and remodelled open space. Once completed this will compliment the many other improvements that New Deal NDC), the Council and its partners have made within Charlestown and Lower Kersal over the last 10 years (see link below). To date the community facilities have been improved with the refurbishment of the St Sebastian's Centre and the creation of a sports academy within a unit on the nearby Orchard Street Industrial Estate. More than 20 residents within the Littleton Road clearance area ( around Levens Street) have also moved to the new Unity Quarter development on the site of the former Kersal High School, with others moving elsewhere - particularly other parts of Central Salford. Work is currently underway to prepare the clearance area for future development. However, given the challenging housing market conditions, the housing proposals for the whole site are being reviewed in order to get a start on site at the earliest opportunity.
