A memorial to Oleksandr Matsievskyi. This is from the exhibition “Love Freedom Ukraine” at Central Milton Keynes Library in September 2023.
The memorial has the following explanation. "This memorial installation is dedicated to a Ukrainian defender shot dead in cold blood by Russian invaders after he said “Glory to Ukraine”. Oleksandr Matsievskyi was executed by Russian soldiers on 30 December 2022. The hero stands by the grave which he was forced to dig for himself at gunpoint. This horrific act of execution was broadcast live worldwide. A soldier without a weapon, smoking a cigarette, saying “Glory to Ukraine” and then being shot. Oleksandr Matsievskyi was honoured the highest national order “Hero of Ukraine”. For Ukrainians Oleksandr became more than a hero. He became a symbol of true resilience, spirit, and hope."
