Port Jackson is a harbour in south-eastern Australia where Sydney was founded in 1788. The sailor is carrying rushes, and the drawing is also known as 'The Hunted Rushcutter'. This scene, recorded in around 1790 by a Port Jackson painter, is watercolour 44 from the Banks Manuscript 34, held at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
