Adrian Keyser was officially connected with theDutch West India (ompany, hy whom the New Netherlands was founded. Hewas afterwards a member of the Executive Council. George Wool soy, likeThomas Hall, was an Englishman. He came out as the agent of Isaac Aller-ton, a leading Dutch trader. The descendants of these men are to this dayhonored residents of this NEW YORK (MANHATTAN), 1656. A survey of the town was begun in 1G54 and completed in 165G. The citywas then laid down on a map and confirmed by law, to remain, from thattime forward, without alteration. Streets were also laid out, some of whichi were crooked enough. The city then contained by enumeration, one hundredand twenty houses, with extensive garden lots, and one thousand of the first acts of the city authorities, after the incorporation of NewAmsterdam, was the framing and passage of an order similar to the one pro-mulgated in 1648. From this it is inferred that hut little attention was paidto the previous proclamation, and as a consequence several fires had occurred, and further dangers are apprehended. Then the ordinance decrees that itis incumbent on the fire officials to perform their duties as tire wardensaccording to the-custom of our Father
