The event included a Meritorious Service Medal to for his service culminating a very distinguished 31 year military career which began in May of 1986. Special guests attending from left to right were the officiating officer, 932nd Chief of Public Affairs, Lt. Col. Stan Paregien; the Chief, Deployment and Distribution Operations Center, United States Transportation Command, Col. Karl Goer

Stan Paregien; the Chief, Deployment and Distribution Operations Center, United States Transportation Command, Col. Karl Goerke; and the Chief of Staff, United States Transportation Command, Maj. Gen. Jay Flournoy. Both Goerke and Flournoy served as wing commanders at the 932nd Airlift Wing when Sergeant Sonnenberg worked in the public affairs office.
