Here are a few varieties that have proven good parents. Apricot Glow, Emile Aubrun, Minuet, Pfitzer*s Triumph, Mrs. P. W. Sisson, Purple Glory, Picardy, Mrs. T. E. Langford, Com- mander Koehl, Gloriana, W. H. Phipps. I don't know much about hy- bridizing but I do not think I would cross two varieties from the same originator unless these varieties have already proven themselves as good parents. The chances are that the originator has already made the same cross himself many times. I don't think you will be likely to get many exceptional seedlings by crossing the older varieties.
