TheNorthern American wood is better and, althougheasily worked, is extremely durable. The west-ern species of chestnut is called the Californiachinquapin. It is a light, soft, reddish woodand is sometimes called evergreen chestnut. Chestnut can be treated practically the same asoak, although it is more frequently stained andfinished natural.
