Arctic Circle signs. The Arctic Circle is a line of latitude that marks the division between the Arctic (to the north) and the Northern Temperate Zone (to the south). In the Arctic, the Sun is continuously above the horizon for part of the summer (the midnight sun) and below the horizon for part of the winter (the polar night).
