He was the inventor ofmany appliances used in the constructionof locomotives, and was closely associatedwith S. M. Vauclain in the developmentof the four-cylinder compound that bearsthe name of the latter. While Mr. Rush-ton did not travel extensively in the prose-cution of his business, he representedBaldwins abroad in some important mis-sions. In 1913. he was sent to Chile, visit-ing varieius points of rnilrond interest on. KENNETH RUSHTON the west coast of South America, and in1918, went to France, in connection withthe design of railway transport for artil-lery.
