Thisgave the work new impetus, a Sundayschool was organized in connection with 167 the regular services. The work of and the little flock began to bearfruit and with increase of interest andmembership there grew up also a desirefor a permanent house of worship. The members of the city were thenunder the protection of the Clear Creekcongregation, a few miles north of thecity. This congregation, jointly with the. Mrs. Nancy of the Congregation. Huntington Rural, Markle and Lancasterchurches, took the matter of buildingunder advisement, and finally decided tobuild. Each of these congregationsagreed to bear a part of the expensesand appointed as their representativesthe following finance committee: HenryShock, Jesse Haines and Frank Frantzof Clear Creek; Simon S. Bonebreak andMartin Hoke of Huntington Rural; , Mr. Hinkle and Geo. Holler ofMarkle; and Dave Burkett, John Hooverand Samuel Friedly of Lancaster. JacobMishler, then as now a resident of thecity, and Abram Mishler and Dave 168 Hoover were selected as a building com-mittee, and the contract for building letto Isaac Brumbaugh, Sr., and DaveHoover. A lot had formerly been boughtnear the present site of the Evangelicalchurch on Front street, but this was soldand another bought at the corner ofGuilford and Washington March 17,1894.
