The spikers and nippers have five minutes inwhich to distribute eighteen ties, place rails andangle bars, and do all the necessary spiking and bolt-ing; in fact, all of the work that is necessary to bedone before the machine and work train can bemoved forward. It should be remembered thatthere are twelve men in this part of the crew—eightspikers and four nippers.
