The Beauchamp Tower lies on the inner wall of the Tower of London, created as part Edward I’s expansion and is thought to have been named after its first prisoner: Thomas Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, who was imprisoned by Richard II in 1397. There is a secret passage from the tower the Deveraux Tower, which got its name from its famous prisoner, Robert Deveraux, Earl of Essex and Elizabeth I’s favourite, who had plotted a coup against the Queen. He was the last person to be executed at The Tower of London in 1601.
