Family MEGATHERIIDiE. The members of this family present characters intermediate between the Brady])odidce and Myrmecoijhayidce, combining the skull Pig. Megatherium amerkamim.—The mandible ; fi'om the Pleistocene of Buenos Ay res. Much reduced. and dentition of the former with the structure of the limb-bones and vertebra} of the latter. One species of Seelidotheriurn approxi- mates, however, in cranial characters to the Mynneco^ihagida^. Xoue of them appear to have been arboreal. The number of the teeth is usually ^. and there may or may not be a diastema between the first and second teeth.
