An old portrait of James Graham, Marquis of Montrose (1612-1650). He was a Scottish nobleman, soldier and later viceroy and captain general of Scotland. He was also the chief of clan Graham and a poet who was known as Great Montrose. He was hung, drawn and quartered and beheaded at the market cross , Edinburgh after being defeated at the battle of Carbisdale.
