Alnwick is the second-largest inhabited castle in Britain after Windsor Castle. Parts of the castle were designed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown in 1750. The seat of the Duke of Northumberland and has been since Henry Percy, 1st Baron Percy. Alnwick Castle has been home to the Percy family for over 700 years and remains a family home today. Alnwick Castle as a filming location for Dungeons and Dragons, Tranformers - The Last Knight, Downton Abbey, Becket, The Black Adder, Ivanhoe, Elizabeth. Additionally, it’s a very popular location for Robin Hood adaptations, having been used in Robin of Sherwood, Star Trek: The Next Generation (episode “QPid”), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Its most famous filming use comes from the Harry Potter films, where it was used in both The Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets.
