The superheaters which are placed be-tween the piping and the upper boilers have a heating sur-face of 1184 sq. ft. each. The feed-water heater for eachboiler has a heating surface of 3229 sq. ft. Another boilerof the same size is now on order and two more will soonfollow. It will be noted from the cross-section of the sta-tion that the products of combustion are led through anarched duct of brick under the feed-water heaters directlyto the base of two stacks located within the boiler yet, however, only one stack has been built. The fullheight is 261 ft. and the inside top diameter is 13 ft. The boiler-feed pumps are of the centrifugal type. Oneof them is rated at 276 gal. per minute and the other at451 gal. per minute. Only one pump is required for con-tinuous operation. The feed-water lines are composed of. Hamburg Power—Generating Plant at Barmbeck two complete loops which may be used with or without thefeed-water heaters. The exhaust of the feed-water pumpsand that of a non-condensing turbine are utilized to heatthe nearby carhouses and shops. Make-up water is takenfrom a well by two electrically operated pumps and carriedto two cisterns in the roof framing of the boiler of it is treated by a purifier having a rated capacityof 20 gal. per minute and is transmitted to make-up water tanks beneath the purifier in the basement and to the car-bouse and shops for car-washing and other purposes. The steam pressure lines run directly from each pair offacing boilers to the nearest turbine, thereby insuringminimum transmission losses. Emergency cross-connec-tions are provided to permit any boiler to feed any turbine. The generating equipment consists of one 400-kw tur-bine operated at 1500 and two 2000-kw turbines
