A mortgage of $500,000 was negotiated, and allthe old obligations were cancelled, the balance remaining beinginvested as a Reserve Capital Fund. Respectfully submitted, THEODORE C. SEARCH, PENNSYLVANIA MUSEUM, MEMORIAL HALL,FAIRMOUNT PARK, PHILADELPHIA REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR In presenting his Annual Report for the year ending May 31^1909, the Director of the Museum takes this opportunity to ex-press the gratification which must be experienced by all museumdirectors at the increasing evidences of the development of a broaderand more liberal policy, whereby inter-institutional relations arebeing established between the various museums of this public museum is but a unit in the system of museum in-struction, which is destined to become a most important factor inthe education and uplifting of the people. No single institutioncan hope to accomplish the best results alone, but by general co-operation the influence of each museum is vastly increased. During the past year the Pennsylvania Museum has receivedvaluable aid from other museums, which have recently shown amarked willingness to furnish assistance to sist
