Duo of lady traders, Ganvie, Benin.

Ganvie, with over 30,000 inhabitants, is a stilted lake village on Lake Nokoue near Cotonou, Benin. It was begun in the 1700's by the Tofinu tribe who fled there from their enemies, the Dom-Homey., who were slavers. The Dom-Homey believed there was a water demon in the lake who could destroy them and therefore Ganvie provided safe refuge from the slavers.
