Met Office communications. Met Office personnel in RAF (Royal Air Force) uniforms transmitting weather reports by wireless from the Central Forecasting Office. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. A variety of communication methods have been used during its history. It was part of the Air Ministry between 1919 and 1990. At left, an ACW (Aircraft Woman) is checking a transmission. Behind her, an LAC (Leading Aircraftsman) is preparing a tape on a Morse code punching machine. The Central Forecasting Office was located in Dunstable from 1940 during the Second World War.
