Fleetwood Festival of Transport took place for the first time on 14 July 1985, and since then has become a Fleetwood institution, always known in local parts as ‘Tram Sunday’. In the afternoon, a mechanical parade swept through the town, packed with eccentric human powered vehicles and kinetic contraptions from Rag and Bone, mechanical creatures including Hieronymus the poorly hippo and his doctor from Thingumajig Theatre and pop up musical stages on the back of boom bikes. Robert Brown, Chairman of Fleetwood Festival of Transport, said: “The committee of Tram Sunday have been looking for a way of keeping the crowds coming into Fleetwood and feel that the introduction of this element will attract an even bigger audience to the Fylde Coast.” 70,000 visitors came to Fleetwood for this glorious family fun day to enjoy the spectacle of majestic police horses, the Scarecrow Festival, fire engines, classic vehicles and lots children rides and amusements.
