To this was welded the lower flange from theoriginal cross compound pipe, which was to be scrapped. Inother words, two right hand pipes were used to furnishsufficient material to make the two steam pipes for thisengine. The sections of these pipes were also assembled onthe engine and partly welded in place and then taken downto complete the welding operations.
