While considering the wonderful success scored by the State in the exposition of 191 1 it is of some interest to recallthe first New York State Fair. That, also, was held in Syracuse in the year 1 841, the outcome of a movement perfected in1832 when the New York State Agricultural Society was formed in Albany. The Fair of 1 84 1 had nine classes for cattle, the premiums in each run-ning from $23 to $40; two classes for horses with $40 in prizes in each; twofor swine with prizes of $23 in each; also eight classes of implements, one ofbutter and one of cheese. About 1 0,000 people attended and the Fair wasrated a big success.
