0 km marker (Kilometrul Zero) outside the National Theatre Bucharest
Kilometer 0 of Democracy is a symbolic monument placed in front of the National Theater in Piata Universitatii, which marks the area where the Romanians overthrew the communist dictatorial regime led by Nicolae Ceausescu, through the bloody revolution of December 1989. After 1989, Piata Universitatii became the place where democratic and national values were defended, whenever they were in danger.
