Desert dust identification. Close-up of a researcher collecting a sample of dust from a car in Beijing, China, to determine where it came from. This is being done as part of research to help prevent the deserts surrounding Beijing from encroaching on the capital. Analysis of the sample will determine which of the surrounding deserts (Badain Jaran, Tengger, or Mongolian deserts) the dust came from.
