It has a natural growth which no pruning canimprove. Notice in the illustration the pleasing con-tour of the whole surface of green foliage, and how itslopes evenly from the crown to the base. We take itthat, as with other specimens we have seen, it has nothad a pruning knife attack it. It is, certainly, a mostlovely specim&n. Some years ago The Excha>ge had an illustrationof a specimen growing in Fairmount Park, Philadel-phia. It was one of some half dozen that were growingthere at one time. The writer believes it to have beensome 30 years or more sincetheir planting. The branches ofthese trees swept the groundwith their foliage to such an ex-tent that they were sawed off tosome 3ft. in height, but evenwith these branches taken off,those above them almost met th
