Boat wrecks in the River Severn near Sharpness Dock, Gloucestershire

The remains of the Arkendale H and Wastdale H are visible at low tide in the River Severn, Gloucestershire, a reminder of the tragic events of October 1960 when the two vessels collided in thick fog near Sharpness Dock. Five sailors lost their lives in the accident and the original Severn Railbridge was so badly damaged in the accident it was later demolished.
