Beds of Fragmcntal Eozoon. If Eozoon was an organism growing on the sea-bottom, it would be inevitable that it would be likely to be broken up, and in this condition to constitute a calcareous sand or gravel. I have already in previous pages noticed Lau- rentian limestones containing such fragments, from the Grenville band at Cote St. Pierre, from the Adirondack Mountains in New York State, from Chelmsford, Massachu- BOtts, and from St. John, New Brunswicic, as well as from Brazil and the Swiss Alps. Indeed, the Laurentian lime- stones of most pai-ts of the world hold fragmental iOozoon. In the Peter Itedpath Museum are some large slabs of Lau- rentian limestone sawn under the dii'cction of Sir W. E. Logan, an«] showing in-cguiar layers and detached masses of ;y/.(mn with luycrs or bands of limestone and of ophio- lito. ThcHo ai-o evidently layei-s successively deposited,.
