Technical diver beneath an oil production platform in Seria, Brunei. Brunei has a long legacy of oil production and there are many automated platforms built offshore. The Seria area of Brunei is close to the mouths of the Baram and Balai rivers which both emit huge amounts of silt laden water. Corals will not grow in muddy environments and so there are very few reefs in the area. However, the solid legs of oil platforms have allowed corals and sponges to settle and these have become oases for marine life.
