The fabric,which is rather embroidery than lace, in the strict sense of the term, is of threevarieties: Tambour, which is made by working upon machine-made net a designin chain stitch; Run, in which lines of a pattern are run with a coarser thread uponthe net ; and Applique, in which cambric or net is laid over net, the design beingformed by overcasting the pattern, and the background being then cut away sothat the foundation shows through and thickens the design.
