The waxwing in the berry plumage BALHAM, LONDON STUNNING IMAGES of a showoff waxwing balancing winter berries on its beak have been captured on the 7th of January 2023. Images show the waxwings feasting on a variety of berries including pink berries and white berries as they contort their bodies into crazy shapes for the best of the crop. These images were captured by data analyst Adam Ferry (32) from Worcester Park, England. Adam captured the agile birds on his Canon R5. Lens was a 100-500mm canon lens in Barham London and Farnham Surrey. ?This year is an influx year of waxwings coming over from Scandinavia looking for food. Most years waxwings don't come this far down south to London. However this year there are a huge amount more than normal in the UK,? said Adam. ?The most there's been for around a decade. I have been monitoring where they turn up recently and managed to catch them in Balham and Farnham. ?They stay on top of tall trees and all suddenly swoop down to feed on the rowan berries every 10 mins or so. They are so quick so you have to be ready to get the pictures. ?This isn't a typical sight as there are never normally enough waxwings, who fly here for the winter for food, in the UK so they never normally make it this far down south to places like London and Farnham. ?This bird has always been on my list to photograph but I've never had the opportunity due to them most years only being found in the winter in Scotland and very up north. So it felt amazing to finally be able to see them and get photos of them. ?I couldn't believe I finally saw them in real life and it was definitely a once in a lifetime moment for me that I will never forget. ?They are so colourful and full of character so their personalities are really easy to capture in photos. ?I love the ability to capture a moment that may never happen again, such as the moment the waxwings swoop in and grab as many berries as they can in such a small amount of time. ?Each phot
