ENCASED SPRING POP SAFETY VALVES The Crane Company, of Chicago, has brought out a numberof improved forms of pop safety valves for stationary, marine,. SEMI-CONVERTIBLE CAR TO BE EXHIBITED AT ST. LOUIS FAIR locomotive and portable boilers, also a variety of cylinder re-liefs, water reliefs, high pressure and hydraulic relief valvesfor all purposes and pressures. The construction of thesevalves embodies a self-adjusting feature which automaticallyregulates the pop of the valve. In other words, it maintainsthe least waste of steam between the opening and closingpoints, an improvement which will be readily appreciated, asthere is no necessity of readjusting to regulate the pop onchanges in the set pressure. In all pop safety valves it is necessary to have a pop orhuddling chamber into which the steam expands when the mainvalve opens, thereby creating an additional lifting force pro-portionate to this increased area and greater than the force ofthe spring, thus holding the valve open until the pressure is June 4, 1904.] STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. 869 relieved.
